IE7 resource hungry?

After downloading IE7 as an update I now find Firefox takes longer to load, even though I don't have IE open - is anyone else having this experience?

  • I find Firefox takes longer to load, the pages seem slower, and it crashes frequently. I had put it down to updating firefox to version 2, and was considering switching to IE7 as my default browser as it now seems a lot quicker.

IE7 is faster than Firefox in most ways.

Although if it's an efficient browser you want, look at Opera. It's by far the fastest. I personally use Firefox at the moment as it's very extensible, plus I've got a nice quick machine, so it loads any of them up instantly.

For the most part I use a combination of Firefox and Opera, with IE running a poor third - not a fan of sites that expect you to have Flash etc installed so the blank screen I get with Firefox suits me fine. I downloaded IE7 on the basis that it would be more secure then IE6 but I imagine it will remain the principle target for hackers, so can't see myself using it any more than usual. Firefox is particularly useful in identifying the address of real audio files when I want to download them from the BBC's 'listen again' feature.
