What food do you like, french, italian thai, chinese, japanese???
And what are you interested in museums, art galleries, or shopping and clubbing??? There is a fair bit of choice0 -
Hi DKLS,
Thanks for your reply - with regards to food I guess Italian, Indian or Chinese.
Other attractions - (unfortunately !!) shopping, decent pubs / bars (not clubs).
Any pointers of where to go (or avoid !) would be welcome.0 -
There is a fantastic pub just off Briggate near the Burton Arcade called Whitelock's, which is just about as old fashioned as you can get. The beer's a bit nasty though (or was last time I was in) so you might want to nip up to the Ship (?) a few pubs up - Sam Smith's pub, very reasonable. Additionally the bar at the Victoria Hotel is well worth visiting for a swift 'alf.
For Indian food, go to Bradford. It's only fifteen minutes on the train. The cheapest curry houses are near the university (get the train to Bradford Interchange not Forster Square) - Kashmir, International and Karachi all recommended. For something more upmarket, try Akbar's on Leeds Road (get the 670 bus from Leeds I think) or I think they even have a branch in Leeds city centre now.

A good italian restaurant is Flying Pizza in Roundhay. Food and service good, atmosphere excellent. Prices are very reasonable except for the wine! It's about 4 miles from Leeds City Centre.. direct buses or about £8 in a taxi.

Good choice about Whitelocks oldest pub in leeds, If you want to be with the hip funky drinking set, head for greek street or the Light just up from the train station.
If you want gay friendly drinking head for Queens Court, unlikely to get your head stoved in there!!! if you want to avoid the wanton violence stay away from Majestyk nightclub V nr train station.
As for shopping, Leeds CC is tiny, so all shops are in close proximity usual high street chains, but good selection of independant shops.
Try Bibis Criterion for Italian Food
Ackbars on the headrow for Indian (Personal recommendation avoid bradford like the plague, horrid place)
Cafe Rouge for French
Maxis for Chinese mmmmmmmmm try the dumplings
Sukothai for you guessed it Thai for a slightly less biased view try

As a resident of Bradford, I beg to differ, but everyone is entitiled to their own opinion.#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Too right RichyRich, I speak from painful personal experience or working there for a memorable 18mths, do they still have the Meat proccessing plant just outside of the Town Centre, the one where they blast the carcasses with water to make school sausages and burgers, if the wind was in the "right" direction, the whole town stank of rank meat!! although one bonus was I rarely bought lunch while there.
What was the Bradford Tourist office motto - " Visit Bradford - The pound shop mecca of the north" :rotfl:0 -
I can second DKLS's recommendation for Ackbar's (Indian) in the city centre. I went a couple of times there last year and the curries are v.good. The Naan breads are huuuuuuuugggee (so huge that they hang them on a stand that sits on your table).0

Most of the centre of Leeds has some great shops including a number of independant shops as well as large chain stores. There are a number of undercover shopping centres in the centre as well as the White Rose shopping centre a little more on the outskirts.
A ride around the surrounding villages if you are in a car will find a number of great food places. There is a great chineese on the edge of South Milford north east of leeds. The name illudes me at the minute but really nice food and plenty of it at a reasonable price.0
