Winter Travel Insurance with Loss of Earnings Cover ?

Planning to do a late minute ski trip.

Always get insurance but would like to get for hubbie a policy that covers "loss of earnings". He's like many people nowadays, doesnt get paid for sick time, and his loss of salary would be a disaster for us.

Found one called Sports Cover Direct, but no others. Read plenty of replies to forum quotes going back to last year and the ash cloud but they all say it depends on your policy. I've looked through several standard Winter Cover policies and Loss of Earnings isnt mentioned.

Just wondered if anyone knows of other Insurers to check on, and what the general info is on this point.

With so many people getting work contracts without paid sick pay, I was expecting to see more companies offering cover even if it adds to the premium.

Many thanks for your help, and apologies if it's already been answered and I'm being an airhead!

I think the reason you're not finding it attached to travel is that a lot of people would buy it standalone.

It sounds as though you are looking to cover sickness ONLY as a result of a ski-ing accident.
Most people would want to cover loss of income as a result of a much wider range of illnesses/accidents, so most people would purchase either permanent health insurance or critical illness insurance.

I personally prefer PHI for two reasons. It covers the inability to work through health, so covers most illnesses/accidents. It also pays an income until retirement which could be many decades.
Critical illnesss covers certain illnesses but not all. It also pays a lump sum. This has it's place and can be useful for a short term income, care, treatment, house alterations or last wishes, but it is not suitable for a long term income.
Critical illness has become very popular amongst advisors in recent years and whilst it meets some needs it does not meet the basic requirement for a long term income if long term sick.

So are you certain you want to cover ski-ing accidents only or should you reconsider to make sure your covered for illness, car accident etc.

I don't think you've missed anything in your research.
I think it's unusual to add it to a travel policy and it's normally done with seperate more wide-ranging PHI or CI.

Thankyou, that explains it. Couldnt work it out at all, seemed so odd for it not to be available as an option, but that makes sense completely.

Very grateful for your reply, will go and check out PHI & CI. It's not something I've ever looked at as very lucky to have a work contract that pays out, but only because I've been there for so long. Aware that most modern contracts arent that friendly.

    Thanks again
