We are thinking of a short break next month. 2-3 nts midweek.
We are looking at either York or Harrogate or Whitby.
Has anyone got any thoughts on which one we should choose
Just want a relaxing couple of days away with a bit of sightseeing during the day and a nice meal and a drink at night.
Thanks for any help.

I've not been to Harrogate but I would prefer York to Whitby
We paid for a York tourist card (I think it was called that) and spent 1 day sightseeing around York as you can jump on/off the tourist bus and the 2nd day at a country house ~(whose name has escaped me)
The pass is called the Yorkshire Pass and there is currently a comp to win 2 free
The country home is called Howards castleMortgage Aug 12 £165K, Aug 19 £0

We love Whitby, and at this time of year you can stay in some lovely places for a reasonable price.
Take a look on Trip Advisor for Hotels. The Marine is very interesting.
To get a feel for the place have a look at this web cam which you actually control http://www.fuscowhitby.com/WebcamSet.html.
If you want to self cater try Ingrid Flute, some lovely cottages in the Old Town.
Great places to eat, try Greens.
And wonderful places to explore and all just a walk away.
Yes we really do love the place.C.R.A.P.R.O.L.L.Z Able Archer0 -
Having been to all, I'd say York hands down.0

Thanks for your replies.
born blonde the marine looks lovely.
Radish 72 the york pass looks like a good deal.I would buy one of those.
charis18uk what did you like best about York over the others. This might give me some ideas.
We might even stay at York for 2 nts and stop off at Whitby for 1 nt.0 -
I have only been driven through Harrogate when I was a child so can`t remember much about it.
We went to York a few years ago and are hoping to go back in April for a couple of days. There is so much to see/do and plenty of places for something to eat/drink at night. We stayed in the countryside about 12 miles away and travelled in to York via the Park & Ride.
Went to Whitby for a few hours on the way to somewhere else. I thought it was ok my husband didn`t like it.
So of all three I would recommend York.
Have a nice time where ever you decide to go. It`s a beautiful part of the country.0 -
It totally depends what kind of trip you're after really.
Whitby is a lovely place but can really be seen within a day maximum. Harrogate is great. There are plenty of shops both high street, a few independant and some antique shops. Valley gardens is a nice place but weather is needed to enjoy properly. York has a little more to offer of the three as it's bigger, the shops are plentiful, there are a few attractions - the Yorkvic centre, York dungeons etc and there's a few nice restaurants for a nice evening out.0 -
Are you travelling by car? All are within reasonable distance of each other, so you could stay in York and have plenty of restaurants to choose from at night and drive over the moors to Whitby or to Harrogate during the day. Harrogate is only about 30 minutes away from York, depending on traffic.0

We love Whitby, it's amazing. But it really depends what you like...walking and sea air, or shopping?0

I have lived in Yorkshire all my life, apart from the last 6 months and I know these places very well. For a nice relaxing break I would pick Whitby every time. There are lots of lovely walks and some good eating places, including the famous "Magpie" fish restaurant. The fabulous North Yorks Moors are a short drive away, with scenery you will never forget, great for a picnic in the car at this time of year.0
