Potential buyer has asked what reserve price is

message from potential buyer on an item I have - it's on obviously expensive item and he's asked what the reserve is. I can't find any guidelines on this, am I looking in the wrong places? And if there are no guidelines what would you do?

Item is collection only and seller location is v close to me (not that this should make any difference!)

Thanks in advance for any advice from more experienced ebayers, I am new to selling!

You are selling an item. I am willing to pay £80 for it.

If your reserve is £60 then I will add it to my watch list and bid

If your reserve is £100 then I will move on and perhaps buy another one that is also on ebay.

I see no harm in disclosing your reserve.
  • its not been unknown for buyers to ask a reserve price, seller didnt disclose
so the buyer bids to find out, then withdraws their bid
i would just tell them, save any potential hassle

I'd tell them and offer them to come round and have a look before the auction ends if they want (with a view to sealing the deal in cash there and then).

  • Just dont accept Paypal. I dont. I wont pay Ebay twice when selling something and I make it quite clear in anything Im selling that Paypal will NOT be accepted.

Isn't it easier for the buyer to decide what they want to pay, and put a bid in for that amount? The listing will tell them if it's not enough. It's not a BIN, so wny the question?

Right, but we sell on ebay and want to keep our accounts.

I always thought you had to accept Paypal as on of the payment methods - is that wrong?

No you are right but we often get people claim they just refund it if paid by it (leaving all the FVfs still to pay and the chance of a neg of course). They tend not to be trading for very much longer, or if they do carry on trading any buyer with an ounce of sense will naturally avoid buying from them.
