Hello all, just come across that entropay is classified as a VISA DEBIT and not an VISA ELECTRON, reason I discovered that was as previously I tried to buy a jet2 flight, however after no sucess and emails to entropay support it still wouldnt work, I then proceeded to topup my prepaid mastercard where it classed the card as VISA DEBIT! So for jet2 fee busting, DONT USE! And maybe it could be the same at many other locations? Hope thats usefull to anyone

Tried it for a Flybe flight andt was detected as debit card... The website states " EntroPay Virtual Visa Cards are categorized, and branded by Visa as the 'Visa Classic Debit'."

Oh well, it was good while it lasted, well for me until Ryanair moved to the pp Mastercard. Seems most banks are doing away with Electron cards, some are telling customers, some are not and the customer only finds out when trying to use it onairline booking pages.

Found this SITE discussing it back in October last year, they advise taking it up with the Bank, however this is unlikely to work with Entropay in my opinion.

Was In a hurry booking an Easyjet flight today...
    >> Notice the £8 fees that would be charge for using Visa card...
    >> >Took the plunge and signed up to Entropay (took 3 mins),
    >>>> Loaded the virtual card with exact amount needed for flight, >>>>> Payed using "Visa Electron" option but entered Entropay details

    *** SAVED £5! Thank you Entropay! ***:money::j
NOTE: It does LOOK as if they are just Visa, but it worked for me!

Like it that their name is a play on 'entropy', the second law of thermodynamics

I too am having problems getting the Entropay sterling visa electron card to work when booking with Aer Lingus. Can anybody confirm if they are accepting it or not?

Heads up to anyone trying to avoid Aer Lingus' handling fee by using Entropay.

I found yesterday, after hours of trying to understand why, that basically Entropay Virtual Visa cards, denominated in GBP, are no longer recognised by Aer Lingus as Visa Electron cards.

I tried two Entropay Virtual Visa card numbers (after having created a second card number) to see if the issue was to do with the provisioning of the first card number. Still the same message on the Aer Lingus website "Your card number cannot be processed online. If you are sure your details have been entered in correctly, please contact your card company."

I called Aer Lingus, as I wondered whether their website was playing up. They assured me it wasn't.

I contacted Entropay support, they just said "EntroPay Virtual Cards are categorized, and branded by VISA as the VISA Classic Debit." and told me to select Visa instead of Visa Electron. I replied to Entropay saying that there are many websites and forums that confirm that Entropay Virtual Visa cards that are denominated in GBP are categorised as Visa Electron and not Visa Debit, and that the starting of my card number is 4101 and not 4313. Entropay replied "Please note that it depends on the merchant's payment processor whether it will accept our cards as VISA electron cards. Please note that we have no control over this." Fair enough.

In the end I accepted defeat and transferred more money to my Entropay account, so that I could pay Aer Lingus' £6 per person "handling fee" (and there were 7 of us travelling!). Since I also had to pay Entropay's 4.95% topping up fee, this whole event cost me more than if I had just paid for the flights using my credit card.
  • Worked today for me on Easyjet! I hope it lasts, but then I also hope not to be cornered in flying the orange again...

Still, I'm glad I avoided giving them an extra £8.

Worked great on cheap easyjet flight!

If any airline blocks this, then they cannot keep the line they are doing it to save them money!!

    Cheers saved £7.50 :D
  • Entropay - Easyjet

It didnt work for me with Easyjet.
tried, failed, and now Entropay have a chunk of my cash as well as having to pay for the flight.

    oops..
  • My impression is that this company harvests information on subscribers as well as on ALL transactions they do. Let me give you an example: I registered with them and transferred money from my visa account. The next day I got an email from them with the following content:

"Please note that we are required to look into all activity carried out on EntroPay accounts.
On occasions, we may have to decide whether an account is in good standing, and request personal and financial identification documentation in line with our regulations.
As you know, we have restricted use of your account until we have seen and checked the requested documentation.
We again ask you to send us the following documents:
1.) A clear copy of your Passport, Photographic Drivers Licence or I.D. Card (both sides).
2.) A clear copy of both sides of all funding sources registered on your account, (For security reasons, we only need to see the first 6 and last 4 digits, Please COVER the 3 digit security code (CVV)). If your funding source is a Virtual Card, please send us a screenshot.
3.) A clear copy of a recent utility bill, on which your name and address are clearly visible.
4.) The name of the merchant in which you intend to spend.
You may send the documents via the Help Desk inside your account, which is a secure channel.
Log into your EntroPay account, click on Help and Support, select helpdesk, click new request and attach the documents. All documents are kept in a secure environment, and are only available to senior security personnel. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes but we trust that you appreciate the importance of maintaining appropriate security standards for our customer's accounts.
    Kind Regards"
As the funding source (Visa card) cleared when I transferred funds that should have been sufficient guarantee for them of my identity (it is sufficient for all other online shops). So why do they ask for all sorts of very private documentation? Question 4 is also very interesting: "with what merchant will you use this card". Hello?

But the most interesting is the statement "we are required to look into all activity carried out on EntroPay accounts" in the first line. This seems to imply that they keep track of all the purchases you make with your card. This looks like hidden policing and big brother to me.

When I asked more questions they simply answered me that my application for a plastic card was rejected and, to add insult to injury, "For commercial and security reasons we regret that we cannot provide further information about our decision."

You can draw your own conclusion I think...
