Contents Insurance Renewal...

My contents insurance is up for renewal...a letter arrived from AA, my current insurers, offering me the lowest price from their 'panel of leading insurers' of £135.
A quick trip to moneysupermarket.com and I have the same cover for £85 from MoreThan.
I call AA to tell them I won't be renewing, and they try and offer to match MoreThan's price. So I simply say "If you can do it for £85, why didn't you offer me that price to begin with? You'd have kept my business that way, but you came in with £135. Sorry." They couldn't argue.
Win for me

They are a mass market volume driven broker so renewals are automatic. Sometimes they can seed back their comission to you to match a price, or negotiate. They arn't going to do that if they don't have to, they are just putting an offer to you. Up to you if you want to accept it or not!!0
