Sky Plus

Hi all
We have moved into a new house and decided to connect Sky+ as there was a dish on the house but the TV aerials where not connected.
I purchased a Sky + box from Ebay and fitted it, but the Sky + feature did not work and when I phoned Sky they stated that they want a £10 a month fee for us to use this feature.
So apart form being a bit miffed as I didn't realise that Sky controlled the Sky + feature from Sky towers, can anyone help with a way of getting the £10 monthly fee down to a more reasonable level
Thanks in advance
Chris

Short answer is "No"
Sky do charge a £10 a month if you wish to use their service.0 -
If you subscribed to a channel pack, the Sky+ subscription would be free. However, the channel pack would be £20 or so.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I'm afraid Sky have you by the short and curlies. You won't get the £10 reduced as they want you to take a subscription.
A better option might have been to go the Freesat+ route, where there are no other costs other than the price of the box.
Mind you, depending on how much the old Sky+ box was, a Freesat+ box would probably have been dearer.Dave. :wave:0 -

I didn't realise that sky charged for Sky+ I assumed that the functionality was built into the box and not controlled by Sky them selves.:(
If I had known that it was a chargeable service I would have probably looked at alternatives.
That said box itself cost about £30 and works fine and we are very pleased with it for the price.
Just trying to see if there are alternatives about or if Sky cuts deals for such how flying customers:D

No I am not a sky customer. I am just seeing if there is a change I can reduce the monthly bill as I fell that it is fairly expensive for the service it represents

You can ask but I cannot see them reducing it for you.
They have no incentive to do so.0 -
Its not that expensive really when you see what you get.
Live pause is brilliant, recording to hard drive is brilliant, rewind, ff, all this and more for £2.50 is a week.
Cheap at twice the pricemake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

I understand what you are saying, but we are on 1 income, and if I can save a few pounds here and there it all adds up.
I think if the service was priced around £7.50 a month I would have no real problems with it. A tenner a month though is £120 a year for me that is a lot on money for the service.

Incidentally, does the existing dish have a dual LNB? Or to put it another way, have you got two feeds from the dish to the receiver? If not then Sky+ won't be of much use as you'll only be able to record whatever channel is onscreen, you won't be able to record one channel whilst watching another. The only solution to that would be to buy a dual LNB to replace the single one.0
