I got a 42" Toshiba TV 3 and half years ago from John Lewis just because they offered a 5 guarantee. Now 4 weeks ago it start to have a problem with it so i phoned John Lewis. They got some one out within days of me phoning and even on a Saturday. 3 Days later the Tv repair company phoned to say it can not be fixed. Then 3 weeks later John Lewis phoned to say the was no Like for like on my TV and would like to offer me £400 for my old TV. Which I paid £1200.
No how can anyone offer a Like for Like on anything like a TV as the are out of date by the time you buy them. i.e the was no internet tv, Freesat built in, 3D, or LED. When i got this TV so how can they ever say they will give u like for like when ever thing is Moving Faster, Smaller, Lighter, Better!

a £1200 tv 3 years ago is a £400 tv by todays standard0

Like for like i presume would be something of similar spec which as jb66 points out would be a £400 in todays standard, for that amount you could peobably get a tv with a better spec and with the current standards.0

Try to negotiate with John Lewis - if you say you don't want the cash they may be prepared to give you a set priced at more than £400 eg http://www.johnlewis.com/230929759/Product.aspx0

http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Sony-KDL-40EX503/Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
I asked a salesman at John Lewis about a similar issue & he told me that JL deduct 20% off the value of TV each year. So you wont get anywhere near the price you orignally paid.0
