How do i ship an engine bought on E-Bay?

My wifes car has broken down and needs a new engine. I have found one on E-bay in Doncaster but it is local collection only. Can anyone advise me as to how i can get it shipped as inexpensively as possible via a courier? Will parcelforce take it?

Have never had to do before so not entirely sure where to start

thanks in advance for any advice/pointers

You need a freight company. We use 'Steve Porter Transport', I'm pretty sure they cover most of the UK.

  • Hi, when my husband changed my engine in my car it took two men and a winch to get it out and the newer one back in!! Unfortunatley I think it wil be too heavy for any courier, remember that they only have one man and a van. I think there is a 15-30 kilo limit too.

What about phoning scrapyards in your area? Maybe easier than getting one from Doncaster to Somerset?

    Good Luck

Ensure the seller is willing to allow a courier, remember they have to package it to avoid damage, they may not want the hassle.
  • Have already asked the question ref the seller packaging etc. Unfortunately the car is relatively young but the damage caused in the breakdown very extensive hence the need for a new engine. Because the car is less than 4 years old getting parts (and not using main dealer prices) is proving hard hence why i have looked as far as doncaster.

Could the seller secure it to a pallet for you ? You could try contacting your local contractor here to see what there pallet rates are like ( I use to use this network everyday in my last job for shipping large plasma TV's)

    Try here Fortec Pallet Network

I'm a car breaker. You can send engines via parcels through the likes of interparcel etc. Just check that the seller is happy with this though, as when I sell collection only items I mean collection in person, not by courier.
  • Problem solved. Although listed as local pick up only the seller has kindly offered to ship the engine to my garage to help me out.

    Thanks for your input all
