Find his name on this site and his medal card, you can download it from this site but I think it will cost you £3.50, it will list his medals, and service dates etc.

CWGC won't help with medals although it's good for deceased information.
Your GF would have received definitely (if he served overseas for at least 28 days) the war medal 1939-45 and the victory medal.
Depending on where he served he would have also been awarded at least one more: 1939-45 france & germany star, africa star, burma star.
The ancestry link was a good one as you'll find the definitive medal record there.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.
