That's great, the free record I got on the military site was on this CWGC for free without registering anything Sounds like this free site is better than the pay site!

Can anyone tell me how I can find out what medals my grandfather would of received during the second world war??

I don't have the first clue where to begin??

Those sites are really cool knowing that most records were destroyed in those times..

Some folks are really good in keeping and preserving records...I salute them all! Yeah!

Find his name on this site and his medal card, you can download it from this site but I think it will cost you £3.50, it will list his medals, and service dates etc.

The commonwealth war graves commision site mentioned above is excellent for finding service records.

CWGC won't help with medals although it's good for deceased information.

Your GF would have received definitely (if he served overseas for at least 28 days) the war medal 1939-45 and the victory medal.
Depending on where he served he would have also been awarded at least one more: 1939-45 france & germany star, africa star, burma star.

The ancestry link was a good one as you'll find the definitive medal record there.
