Dla and mobility car help ?

Hi everyone,

Have been around for ages on these forums but first time at posting so bear with me.

What it is , i have been getting high rate mobility for over 3 years now due to severe back problems that are progressive and wont get better. Anyway after much discussion i decided to get a mobility car.

I am due to get it mid march. As you will know it is a three year contract hire. This DLA i have been awarded at the moment is due to end on Jan 2013. As i only got a 2yr award this time.

Now if it gets renewed for another 2 year period it will be from Jan 2013 to Jan 2015, but the contract hire would come to an end March 2014 and it would only leave me with 10mths award left. I cant possibly be without a car for 10 months does anyone have any advice how i can get round this problem.

Would i be able to cancel my contract a few months early so it would give me another full year, i'm just really unsure what to do and don't know if i should just cancel it , although the car i have at the moment is on its last legs, meant to say it will be my husband driving as i am unable to do so now, thanks for any advice on this.

S xx

Motability will not be happy if you cancelled the contract early just because you want to order a new car.

Around three months before your current lease finishes ring up DWP and ask for a form for change in circumstances. When filling in the form remember to say that you need at least an extension on your award in order to get a new car.

At the end of the current lease you can ask for an extension on your lease. I think they will extend it in 3 month blocks. They will help you in any way they can.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D
  • you can change your car they make a one off charge which was £100 but i think it might be £250 now
