Insurance Excess Waiver Policy on Motorhome

Hi, we are hiring a campervan in NZ for a couple of weeks and have found out it might be a good idea to have insurance to cover the 2,000 NZD excess. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Yes there are excess waiver policies. If you google for them, you will find options. There is a company called worldwideinsure that provide this cover and probably many others.
The main inconvience of these separate policies, is that in the event of a claim, you could well have to do some of the leg work. If you are back in the UK, it could be a bit of a pain liasing between the hire company and the Insurers. In the meantime your credit card might be hit with the excess, if the hirers experience a delay gaining reimbursement from your Insurers. The hirers Insurance may be more expensive, but if you needed to claim, they would deal with their Insurers directly, potentially saving you a lot of hassle.
I have hired in NZ before and you do have to be a bit careful. They do tend to sell you a lot of options, which were not mentioned at the time of booking, but this is the same the world over. Hiring Motorhomes in NZ is amazingly popular, so popular in fact, that you see convoys of them on major routes, which can be a bit of pain, if you are driving behind them. If you have not been to NZ before, some of their A roads, can be a bit like UK minor B roads, so journeys can take longer than expected. So best to take your time, relax and enjoy the spectacular scenery. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0
