Q about Continuation Pet Insurance when animal is PTS?

I wonder if anyone knows about this, please. Actually knows, not what they might think happens, but actually has experience of these policies. Sorry to be rude but this is a hard time and I wanted to know what happens not end up with people arguing over it.

I have had my Pet Insurance for a long time (about 9 years) it is continuation cover and the policy always runs Aug to Aug and for the last 6 years my cat has had diabetes so we have an ongoing claim always using the same claim number. I usually pay myself then put in one claim once every 6 months.

Today we have to have our cat put to sleep, there is some money owing to us because I have had Insulin and tests in Aug, Sept, Oct and December - I would usually be doing this next month.

However, now she has to be PTS what happen?. Obviosuly I call the insurance company and tell them as I will not have the pet to insure but I am not sure whether they will want the rest of the policy in a lump sum, whether I'll get paid for the treatment to date because she has died or what? Does anyone actually know?

It is with Virgin Money. First time I have had to go through this. Thank you.

Assuming this….http://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/Images/accident-illness-PD_tcm23-11802.pdf is the policy you have then look at page 10 where it says

……You may cancel this policy at any time by contacting us at the address shown on your schedule. Your policy will continue until your next direct debit is due and will be cancelled from the end of that period of insurance when all cover will end and no further claims payments will be made…….

I’d say all outstanding claims will be paid as normal

Thanks vaio, I'll give them a call tomorrow when my head is straight. My brain is not working properly I did not think of checking the policy. Thank you very much for your time.

    No problem

I can’t see that there is anything urgent so maybe take a while to get over your loss and come back to it later when I’m sure everything will drop into place.
