Income Protection Insurance - Silly Question?

Hello to you all,

I was wondering if someone could help me with a query I have on Income Protection Insurance? I apologise in advance if this question sounds silly but my head is going round with this at the moment.

I currently have a policy for Accident, Unemployment and Sickness with Lloyds of London but I am wondering whether or not I need it.

If I am unable to work due to sickness or accident in my current position my employer will pay me full pay for the first 6 months then half pay for another 6 months. So, if I was unable to work due to sickness or accident would my insurance company pay out even if my employer was still paying me each month?

Many thanks,
