I am beside myself and dont know what to do, I was informed by phone yesterday that our joint account is to be closed, ALL accounts, isa, savings, bill paying account and current, our cards were taken over the wknd through the ATM's. Thing is, i had an arranged overdraft which cost me 9 pound a month, they have wiped it and I was using it to pay rent and top it back up on a weekly basis, I thought I was being clever making the money work for me, but now I have lost the facility and the ability to pay my rent this month. I am yet to recieve a letter from head office explaining the decision, I was told it was posted on the 21st of this month. My bank manager does not even know what is going on. I have missed a few direct debits tbh, but they earn money out of me! I had a meeting with manager 3 weeks ago to sort finances and we opened the bill paying account, which didnt go live until the 21st of this month, not even used and they have closed it with no explanation. I have five children, my tax credits, child benefit and husbands wages get paid straight into these accounts! please help me.

You need to open an account with another bank. If they have closed everything they are clearly not happy about your account conduct, and want you gone. I'd suggest you take a look at the basic bank accounts on here, and also, prepare and live within a budget.
Also - if you have ISA and savings accounts, is there money in these? If so, why are direct debits bouncing?0 -
No reasons forthcoming. But they have offered to give me the cash toward my rent, if I agree to a monthly repayment term. Any ideas as to what maybe going on? anybody?0

Thanks thatsean, I was trying to budget hence the meeting with branch manager, I honestly belived that the bank would be grateful of my bounced DD's, for every one, and there wasnt that many tbh, they got a charge fee, surely after losing billions every penny counts, anyhoo, Isa had money in it, no DD's out of that one or savings. just out of current.0

If you are allowing dd's to bounce, then the bank obviously sees you as a high risk. Its not a case of being grateful of the money fromt he charges, they see you are struggling to meet your obligations, and theyve realised they could lose a hell of a lot more than what they are making from you. If you have money in your savings accounts, why are you not using this to pay off what you owe?
You might be best heading over to the debt free wannabe board, lots of useful advice on tackling your debtsDebt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -
I tried to keep my post short, basically, 4 direct debits got missed over 12 months, not intentional, My branch manager was brilliant and helped us get back on track, I guess it was just too late for the big wigs in head office. Still no letters as to why this has happened, but it is being investigated by customer service. I have taken onboard all that you have said, but I now feel quite bitter about the whole thing, after all, I helped bail them out when they were struggling, could they not have shown me the same courtesy, will I get the money back that I invested in them? of course not. and where do i go now, Barclays have said I have been badly treated as do the Halifax, but, considering the circumstances I wont be able to trust another bank again, can I do without?0

What happened in the end?0
