Can't tune my kitchen TV - please help!!!

I had a Curtis under-unit TV installed as part of a new kitchen installation. We only had an indoor aerial for it so could only receive the basic channels, with very snowy reception. We then got a new digital aerial installed outside and have paid for a lead to be brought through the kitchen units and attached to the tv. I thought that would the problem solved, but now when I try to run the auto-tune search, it keeps coming back blank and saying 'no channels found'. Should I be able to receive digital channels or am I trying to tune the wrong thing?

I don't understand any of the technical info on the set-up menus so I have no idea whether the settings are correct. I'm really frustrated and can't believe I've gone to all this trouble and expense and can't get any reception.

Please please can someone talk me through what I should do, in simple terms, before I smash up the whole kitchen with a frying pan??!!!! I'd be so grateful.

Keeping fingers crossed that someone can come to my aid...

Shame for you, I was in the same boat not so long ago, have paid a fortune on various booster indoor aerials over the years but no joy. I think the siting of the kitchen is poor with regards to reception. I paid a tv aerial man £150 to put direct connections in to the 3 bedrooms upstairs but he didn't leave a connector for the kitchen!!!

If I was you, I would get the man that put the aerial in to come and sort it for you, presumably you paid him enough for the job ;)

If you are on benefits of certain kinds, you could get help from BBCSwitchover scheme for free. Or what about the kitchen people.

Hope that helps you a little bit.

Has your analogue been switched over yet?

If it has, you'll need a digibox of some description. Unless your TV had Freeview built in.

The aerial installer should have tuned it in to check reception.

He may not have connected the coax to the aerial correctly.

I would get the aerial installer back to sort it, he/she should have left you with a working aerial.

Is this TV fitted with a Freeview tuner or is it just analogue?

If it's this model it would appear it only has an analogue tuner so it would not receive digital channels unless connected to a Freeview box.

However in saying that an auto tune should have found the analogue channels so get the aerial installer back.

Not if analogue has been turned off it won't.

Freeview boxes are cheap enough, some are no bigger than a fat scart.

Pedant Corner, There is no such thing as a digital aerial.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

True - I had forgotten that some areas had already switched over to digital fully.
