If caused by your service are you claiming for it through the armed forces compensation scheme? are you being medically discharged through your foot injury?you should be claiming through the armed forces compensation scheme for the injury to foot if caused by your service.........the outcome of any claim will be fully realised after you have had surgery and the appropriate % awarded. If it affects your walking then you could try for disability living allowance which if awarded will still be payable even if you find employment. You may be eligible to make a claim for Employment Support Allowance which would assist you in applying for a reduction in your council tax/rent if applicable.Strongly suggest you make efforts to see resettlement advisers and get the relevant advice, especially for your foot injury so you get what you are entitled to..if being medically discharged be very alert regards any % offered for injuries, given that it may worsen after operation or alter the way that you walk.

I was medically discharged from the Army, if this is the case for you you need to contact the veterans agency and get a war disablement pension, dependant on your % award you may be entitled to other benefits also you can apply for an occupational pension.
  • Why are you waiting until you leave the army to have the operation? Why not while you are still in and accept a medical downgrade and associated medical pension if possible?

Sorry my advice was not correct you can only get a war pension if the injury occurred before 6th April 2005.
  • I have a war disabilty pension - your best bet is talK to the British Legion they have great people who can provide great advice.
be aware when yoiu apply to the DWP or Veternas agency as they are called - the first decision is usulally not fair (up to 50% of cases are appealed) - you also have to update them on tyour medical status with disabilty - ie if it gets better or gets worse
