Is it easy to swap free car tax to a new car?

I was just wondering because my car tax is due to run out soon, and as I now get higher rate mobility DLA I think I'm entitled to free car tax? The thing is though that I will be needing to get a new car within the next few months, so will I be able to transfer this fairly easily or should I just wait to apply for the free car tax on the new car?

Thanks in advance for any help:)

you need to get a certificate from dla dwp so you can tax the car
  • Once you have the forms - the taxation one, the registration one, insurance certificate, etc, it is ridiculously easy.

What you do is change the taxation class on the V5 to disabled at the counter - they can send this off for you at the same time (you don't have to wait for it to come back before taxing the vehicle), and then do the same when you get your new car. Don't forget to do all the paperwork for the old one - changing the class back again as you do the new owner notification stuff.

Once the 'work' has been done for the first year, it's even easier for the next.
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.
