Hi there,
My son Lewis has scoliosos, he currently wears a brace and the curve is 63 degrees. I have become friends with a couple of girls whos children have the same condition they told me to apply for dla as they recieve it for there children. I have done this but a letter came today to say we didnt qualify.
Is there anything else i can do?
Thanks for your help

Does your son have care and /or mobility needs (assuming he's under 16) above an average child of his age?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Yes, He is 8yrs old, I put the brace on and off help him to the toilet as the brace has to be removed for hygienic reasons. put his shoes on and off turn him in the night.Alcoholic gel has to be applied 4 times a day to prevent sores. im sure there is more but i will add as they come in to my mind (you forget as you just do things automatically)
Thank

hi janette,
i would say start a little book and start to write down all the things you do for your son throughout the day and the night.
do you have a consultant linked to child development centre if so you should have a specailist health visitor linked to the child development centre.
i work for a childrens charity based within the cdc of my local hospital and it is my impression that if you do things in the night then you should be eligably for something.you just need to record all that you do and appeal to the decision i really hope you have a good health visitor as she should help you if not do you have a support group mybe someone there can help you , if not ask the other mums where they got the advice from to fill out the form.I run a coffee morning every friday within the charity and my parents share all this info and much much more i'm based in Bradford St Lukes Hospital if your close pop in.
all the best if you require anything else just pm and i will try to help

I think the OP should do one with the school. Because he's at al school all day, they may do things she wouldn't always do.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

having been refused you now need to appeal, first contact them for a statement of reasons, this extands the time in which you have to appeal from 4 weeks to 6,meanwhile contact CAB or welfare rights to see if you can get help with the appeal.
the advantage of winning an appeal would be getting payments back-dated,if you dont want to go thru the appeal process then apply again, with more supporting evidence and maybe as suggested keep a diary for a week or two.
good luck0
