Any tips on what to do with children - aged 4 and 2?
I really want to do the Golden Circle tour, but would they be too bored?

me and my family are going to iceland in feb.
are you going on your own?
i am thinking of renting a car and do our golden tour ourselvies with the map... any thoughts on that?0 -
Hi - myself, wife and the 2 children are going in April. I guess car hire could be cheaper than 4 tickets for the Golden Circle tour - hadn't considered that to be honest. Think the tour operators charge £50-60 each so car hire for 1 day in theory should be less than £100 though it is expensive over there!!
Going to try to visit the Lazy Town studio that is in Reykjavik as my 4 year old loves it!!! Also going to do Blue Lagoon, but not sure what else?0 -
just checked a couple of things. Hertz offer 1 day rental for £70, which is reasonable so I'll definitely be doing that :-)
Also bear in mind the sunrise/sunset times. In February, sunrises at 9.45am so prob best to leave in daylight, though doesn't set til 6pm. In Dec, the sun only rises for 3hrs a day!0 -
i have quoted for car hire before
it was around 200 pounds for 5 days
mind u i can be wrong
there are 5 of us (all adults), so i suppose it will be much cheaper if we rent a car instead...
where did u book your holiday? i got mine from lastminute.com... i want to see the northern light but dont think if i can do that on our own, not knowing where we can see them.0 -
Definitely check out the hot pools at the swimming baths - it's about the cheapest thing to do in Iceland.
There's a good one next door to the Youth Hostel in Reykjavik. The blue lagoon would also be fun for the kids.
Cinemas generally have films in English with Icelandic subtitles - another option.0 -
if you need any advice on where you visit, send me a pm and i will post some ideas for you. We did a field trip out there, and so veered off many of the touristy routes....
(ps - i will only offer advice if you PROMISE to put me in your suitcase!!!
*jealous*)

if you go to the discount section of the site and find an Avis code, I got a prebooked car in Iceland for £60 for 4 days or 3 days 23hrs and 59 secs:beer:0

just a bit more to add to the moneysaving in iceland
The Plaza hotel in Reykjavik is 182 pounds for 2 nights on the easyjethotels website. they do a double the difference price promise. https://www.find-rooms.com offer the same 2 nights for 146 pounds.
therefore book the easyjet option, click on contact us page and complete the details. they will send a double refund after 30 days of returning so it would cost 55 overall 110 quid for 2 nights. bargain.0
