Letting out a room (resident landlord) legal obligations

Hi, please can anyone advise me on the following, I've tried various local/regional/national authority websites and other advice sites but all were silent on the issue.
I live in Scotland, and plan to let out a room in my flat (which I live in). Is a resident landlord legally required to get a gas safety certificate and electrical appliance safety inspection carried out each year, like a non-resident (absentee?) landlord would have to? Also is it still a legal requirement to hold the tenant's deposit in a govt-approved deposit account?
Does anyone know where I can read more on the legal obligations of resident landlords in scotland?
Thanks

There is no tenancy-deposit scheme in Scotland although I believe that lodgers have different rights i.e. more than lodgers in England & Wales.
Can't advise on gas safety-certs etcetera but I would have thought that as you are living in the property it wouldn't make sense not to have the gas-safety checks done regularly. Unless you have a death-wish, that is.0 -
Like Bitter above, I'm not familiar with Scotland. However Shelter Scotland have a section on lodgers here.
Also the (UK wide) tax implications are here.
If you need more specific answers, try posting a question on Landlordzone. They even have a special section on Scottish rental and legal questions!0
