Moving to new area - lose all benefits

I am on DLA and ESA. I may be moving to a new area (from one London Borough to another one). Does that mean that my DLA and ESA awards would be cancelled and I'd have to reapply from scratch all over again, be re-assessed etc?

No. Changing address doesn't trigger a review. You'd only trigger a review if you said that your needs have now changed.

  • I moved from one part of the country to another a couple of years ago.

My IB was transferred with no difficulty at all - The only issue I had was that I recieved three letters from different people all asking me to visit the JC+ for a 'benefit check'...a couple of phonecalls sorted that out (and arranged for me to have home visits too).

Housing/Council Tax Benefit were obviously more complicated. I had my new accomodation sorted before I moved, but it still meant a complete new application, so loads of form-filling. But I expected that.

I found all the authorities really helpful - just give them enough warning about the move.
