I live in Leicestershire and have a car. Got the first 10 days off in March and looking for somewhere to visit - either as a base to travel to other places either by car or public transport. I am looking at 3-5 nights away. Trying to see if there's any cheap Travelodges in those areas suggested as well.

Bath is beautiful and close to Bristol as well. Manchester has art gallery, science museum and is close enouth to Liverpool with the Beatles connections. As the weather could be variable both pairs of cities have indoor attractions.0

days for visiting depends on what you are into and who is going, is it just you, or a family with children etc. xnow proud mum to 3 handsome boys :j latest one born 10/10/11:j0 -
Who are you going with? Is it just yourself or will you have little ones to entertain too/your partner or other family? I went on a trip to Bath once which was lovely (during the height of summer, so I remember walking along shops and stopping off for a well-deserved tea and cake cafe pitstop) but I'm not sure I'd want to do the same thing with my 3 kids in tow these days too!

As mirrorimage0& alisonmeyers has already said, Recommendations would depend on what your interests are and who you are travelling with. However, I would recommend York as it's a great historical City with lots to do for adults and/or families. It's also a great base from which to explore the whole of Yorkshire.
If you are looking for somewhere a little more modern, vibrant or with a good nightlife, Leeds would be good and again it has great links to explore other cities/regions.0 -
I'd also suggest York, but then I'm biased as I lived there for a few years. It's big enough to have loads of things to do but not so big that you feel lost, and very easy to explore the rest of the area. If you base yourself there you can also get the train up to Leeds if you want a 'night out' vibe which takes about 40 minutes."A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0
