RBS Key Account

Anyone got any definitive answers as to how long you have to wait to upgrade this account (I know that you have to apply for another account and cannot keep your sort code and account number).
I have been told 3 and 6 months - anyone out there with solid experience of this so I don't waste my time?
Also did you do in branch or online?
thanks

Hi there,
I've had an RBS Key Account since 2006 and never had the option to upgrade it even although at the time of opening this account I was in full-time work, earning a good wage and with an absolutely perfect (though limited) credit history. I've occasionally been invited into my local branch to "upgrade" to a "better" account but each time I've tried to do this I have (for some reason) been rejected and have now taken to ignoring the letters and telephone calls I get from my branch encouraging me to visit and think about trying again. They're especially keen for me to "upgrade" to their Royalties or Royalties Gold accounts. You're right in saying that you can't keep your account number and sort code if you upgrade from a Key Account and so it's best to bear this in mind, if you're like me, and have gotten used to them by now. I can't think of why I'm continually rejected and my branch can't give me a definitive answer either. It's very confusing because I have £8,000+ in the account and the branch manager stated I have a very high internal bank rating of either 3 or 4 but I'm not sure what this means in RBS Group terms. I've had no problems in opening bank accounts elsewhere and Barclays, Lloyds and Santander have both offered me full Current Accounts and yet RBS seem reluctant to do so, even after all this time of being a loyal customer and keeping my account in good order. I was recently in my local branch of RBS doing a counter transaction and a manager oversaw the clerk dealing with me and said she thought it was very unusual that I only had their most "basic" account and would I like to think about making an appointment to discuss this. I just told her what I've told you and she said she found that very strange. I wonder if anybody could possibly shed some light on this because it's puzzled me for a longtime now, what am I doing wrong?
Best of luck0 -
If you have full accounts with Barclays, Lloyds TSB & Santander then does it matter that RBS don't want you?0

It's the principle, plus it's them that keep contacting me.
Why should a bank that's taxpayer owned be allowed to reject me, not making enough money to make it worth their while?0 -

A purely academic point unfortunately. Imagine if they had the same policy for borrowing?Best Regards

This is my thread originally ( I had to resurrect myself as tigerlily44 as I forgot my password and it locked me out lol).
It seems to have got hijacked by other users so I thought I would post a quick update.
RBS turned me down for the full current account (probably because I have no patience!) and said they needed to see salary details going in for longer than the 2 months they have seen it so far
Hope this helps others
