Ski gear cheaper in US?

Having spent a little while trying to compare US and UK online ski shops, I'm surprised to find little evidence that the US is cheaper for ski gear/equipment. Does anyone know different?

I'm planning a ski holiday to the US, and am planning to buy boots rather than rent crappy, smelly, uncomfortable ones. I am also thinking about buying skis, though I think it would be cheaper to rent them unless I am going to use them for several holidays. I initially assumed it would be cheaper to get these in the US, but Snow and Rock and Ellis Brigham seem generally cheaper than the US websites I can find.

Has anyone else made these comparisons with actual US shops (as I would want to get boots fitted properly in a real shop)?

Depends where you are going. If you are going direct to a resort and not within driving distance of a city or even an outlet mall, then I would say that you would prob be cheaper buying in UK.

We went to Jackson Hole last year and the in resort shops were VERY expensive. Went to Banff the year before....in store shops comparable to UK but the stores in Calgary were much cheaper (also sale time so that helped  ) Also depends what you are looking for. If you don't have anything specific in mind and not too fussy then you can pick up some good bargains in the big chains like sportchek (Canada) and even Walmart.
