Chrimbo cards from Mouth & Foot Painting people!

  • I have had these a few times, also Cancer research etc keep sending me forms to make a donation with a free pen.

If I want to donate to these charities then I will, I dont need free pens and the emotional blackmail of cards from the blind etc. Im sure there are better ways of promoting the charities than spamming my letterbox, and they would save the postage costs to boot!

It all goes in the bin.

    What a misery you are.

It is for a good cause after all.

Do you shout at the people collecting for charity in town centres?
  • I put them in the box to go to the Jumble Sale.

To be honest, all charities use varying degrees of emotional blackmail ..... neglected dogs, crying children etc.

Just lately, I've become extremely cynical about charity fund-raising. They must waste an absolute fortune when you add up TV campaigns, full page ads in glossy magazines, direct mailing, special appeals ....... And there seem to be too many charities raising money for pretty much the same thing. Pick any "good cause" ...... for the sake of argument, cancer charities (but it could be animals, ex-servicemen etc ...). There are loads and loads of them. All with overheads - staff, offices, phones, paper, postage etc. Wouldn't it be better to have one umbrella charity, with lower overheads, splitting the money up between the different branches?

And if that's not enough, someone who's overcome a "challenge" then sets up yet another charity - why?

The waste of money must be truly shocking. There has to be a better way of getting more of the money raised directed at the purpose of the charity and not wasted along the way.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

I also hate charities that "beg" and use emotional blackmail to try and make you part with your money, but I just ignore them and throw them in the (recycle) bin!

I only ever support charities that mean something to me, or maybe if a friend is doing something challenging* to raise money for a charity they care about!

*by challenging, I do genuinely mean challenging. I wouldn't sponsor my marathon running friend for a 5k run!!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I get these every year. It is such a waste of paper too!

If people want to buy them, I am sure they would without having a reminder every year.

  • My gran made a donation to 'feed my people' after she got a leaflet through her door. They sent her an umberella will a minimum donation of £15 YES £15!!!! So she order another one??? When she showed me I was like, I think this is a scam.. dont buy anything from them again. They were such bad a quality and design. They keep sending her umberella's, t-shirts all asking for a minimum donation of something ridiculous. She just keeps them now.
This has also with a company she bought tights from.. they kept sending her stuff then asking for payment when she never placed an order.
She is not particulary old, she still works part-time. But when it come to charity.. well. My Gran and gran-dad has 8 direct debits with various charities. I tried to get her to reconsider, but its her money unfortunately and i cant really tell her what to spend it on

Send them a cheque, only write it with your feet so that it's illegible and the bank refuses to cash it.

(Yes, I am a horrible person, but this kind of postal guilt-tripping gets on my wick)

Also, if you receive unsolicited goods, you can ask them to pick them up do NOT pay to return them. They have 6 months to collect then you get to keep the item.

If you receive unsolicited goods, they are yours to keep or dispose of as you see fit. There is no time limit. Once they arrive they are your property. You are not required to contact the sender if you do not wish to do so.
This is current UK Law. It was changed a few years ago to stop people being ripped off for receiving unsolicited goods and then having to pay for something they didn't want or ask for.
If you want to contact the sender to collect the items, or return them at your own cost, you may do so if you wish, but you are not legally required to do anything.

If you wanted to, you could reply to them thanking them for the gift of XXXXXX which as they are aware is yours to keep by law. I doubt if you will hear from them again.

I've never been tempted to use them, as they are such naff designs.

I agree that this marketing technique is disagreeable but there is no need to be so rude about the artists' work.

I can't paint as well as them and I have all my limbs and appendages.
