I dont know if this is a silly question or not but any advice would be appreciated. I have been pensioned off sick from work after 36 years with the same company, i am 53. I have had 3 knee replacement since January on the same leg, i am now unable to do the job that i was employed for. This should not stop me in about 3 months looking for other work which might have to be part time. I had my last operation in November when i was on half pay, i start to receive my pension on Jan 28th.As i have never claimed before i am not sure what to do people keep telling me i should be able to make a claim until i am fit enough to work. But bare in mind my pension which is £17000 per year and my wife works full time, i dont want to come across greedy but if i am entitled to anything ive paid for it.

Your pension may be too high for contributions based ESA. Do you have any care and /or mobility needs? You may qualify for DLA. For DLA, your income, that of your partner and what NI you have paid in are irrelevant.

Yep, even taking into account the taper reduction in eligibility the pension income will be too high.
