Swimming near Birmingham?

We need to go to Birmingham, and thought while we are there it would be nice to do something with the kids as a treat, as it seems to cater for them all (5.9 ans 12 years old).
Any recommendations for a good swimming pool near Birmingham (north side) or possibly south side of Derby?
Ideally with flumes/slides, not just a pool.
I have been googling most of the evening, and got rather frazzled as it keeps coming up with swimmingpools in hotels or health clubs, or the birmingham council website, which is 'under development' and does not give details of individual pools' facilities at the moment!
Found the 'daysoutwiththekids' website, but has little detail on it, just links back to the birmingham council website!
Alternatively anything else you can recommend that will keep them active and amused for a couple of hours before our long drive home!
Thanks and hope someone can suggest something!:)

You know Derby is an hour away don't you?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0

Yes, but we have to go to Birmingham anyway, and we would be going via Derby-ish either M1 way or A38 way. Just hoping to find something not too far off the route one way or the other. So could either go somewhere in Birmingham when we've done, or near Derby on the way back. IFSWIM0

Birmingham is quite a big place you know, so there are probably lots of places. I know the swimming baths at Stechford has slides and jacuzzis and that sort of thing: http://www.birmingham.gov.uk/cs/Satellite?c=Page&childpagename=Sport-Leisure-Centres/PageLayout&cid=1223102817448&pagename=BCC/Common/Wrapper/InlineWrapper
Don't know if that's the area you're looking in though.0 -
I know the sort of thing you are looking for and AFAIK there is nothing like that - there are a few pools that have flumes, waves etc but they are all council leisure centres with a few 'added extras' like the one jd87 suggested.
Sorry
There's loads more to do though0 -
Thanks for the replies, we will be near the national indoor arena, not sure what area that is, I think its north of the city?
Looking on google the place you mention is not too far, only a bout 5 miles. Imnot really wanting something that they want to stay in all day anyway, an hour splashing around on the flumes is just right, as we have other things to do!0 -

NIA is in what I would class as city centre and there is nearly always traffic so I would get there half an hour before you need to. I don't think there is a public swimming baths in the city centre but across the canal from NIA is sealife centre, its not too big and you could do it in hour, its a bit pricey, but then so are the baths these days, I think sealife do 241 and its cheaper on website in advance, they also have ball pit in the cafe there. Also you will be walking distanced from the bull ring. Let me know if you need any tips on parking round there.0 -
NIA is the city centre, slightly south of the very centre but well within the city limits.
To get to Derby you would need to drive through the city to the other side then north, 1.5hours
on a good day.
Would you pop to Southampton or Portsmouth whilst visiting london just to go swimming? Bristol/Exeter
Swansea/Bristol Skegess/Newark etc..
What are your travel plans/times?
Thought about the science museum (Thinktank).
Traffic can be a nightmare, Just before xmas i went from the north side to the south side going through the city
road passes close to the NIA and the total distance 12 miles too me 55 minutes. That was in the morning rushhour
how people do that everyday i dont know. Well i do slightly you have to watch some of them drive and
wonder how they managed to stay alive long enough to do that everyday.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hiya - if you're looking for somewhere north of Birmingham, try Tamworth Snowdome - not just snow but swimming aswell.

kids love it, there's loads to do (although it can get quite expensive) and it's sort of en route and easy to get to.

I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0
