Car insurance changed yet claim still being made 2 years on

I was involved in an accident 2 years ago which was my fault. I was insured fully comprehensive.
I have recently changed insurance company, yet the original claim from my previous policy is still in progress ,as I have received court documents through the post from the claimant! ( which I don't think should be being sent to me, but the old insurance company! )
Can someone please tell me whether the previous insurance company is still liable to settle the claim ,as I was insured with them at the time of accident?

Replies gratefully received as this is starting to get me worried!

    Hello,

The claimant is still able to claim and your previous insurers should be dealing with the claim. A person can claim for property damage up to 6 years after an accident and for injury it is 3 years.

You should forward the court documents to the previous insurer as soon as possible. I work with motor claims every day and there are numerous occasions when a policyholder receives court documents, fails to send them in to us to deal and wonders why they are left with a CCJ against them!

    Hope i have helped :)

I can't thank you enough, I can sleep a bit better tonight now!

Obviously, I can't fill in any of the court documents, so this is what I am going to do first thing on Monday.....

    1/ Photocopy the documents twice.
2/ Send the original court documents to my previous insurers by registered post ,after a telephone call to them to obtain exact contact details.
3/ Send a photocopy of the court documents back to the court with a covering letter explaining what I have done.
4/ Keep a photocopy for my records.

Do you think this is sufficient , or is there anything else you recommend I do?

Do exactly that, you've got all bases covered there.

Just check in a week or so that the documents were received by your insurers, they should be dealt with as priority.
