Illness and bad skin

I have been ill for most of december and the toll has been told in my skin.
My face is soooooo dry it is tight and sore yet I have broken out in hard lumps (spots without tops on them) especially on my nose, in my eyebrows, hairline and chin. There isnt a pore on my face that isnt congested or turned into blackheads and yet there is isnt a patch on my face that doesnt have dry peeling skin on it.
What cheap solutions do people suggest?
I know that I shouldnt be so shallow and that I should be grateful that I am making a recovery from my poor health last month/year but I am sooo upset at looking at a tired, sore, swollen looking face with tired eyes and spots every time I look in the mirror - I am mid 30's yet look 50+.

Hi...sorry that you seem to have lots of problems...I don't have any magical soloutions. Maybe go and visit your doctor to see if it is anything else rather than just skin problems. It may be an underlying problem. I think maybe go and get checked out, he could prescribe some cream maybe. Good Luck.0

I am under the hospital and GP and have been told that my illness has nothing to do with my skin apart from the fact that I am very run down.0

A good cleanser is the Oil Cleanse Method (OCM). You can find it by googling. Basically I use 75% olive oil (or you can use almond but I had olive in the kitchen) and 25% castor oil (I got castor oil off an online chemist as it is hard to get OTC now) The castor oil is supposed to draw out the blockages. Only use it a couple of times a week, not daily.
Mix the oil up in a clean bottle then pour a small blob into your hands, rub your hands together then give it a really good rub all over your dry face. Pay attention to dry and congested areas. Then get a hot wet flannel and put it on your face until it cools. Do this several times and then keep rinsing the flannel and rubbing the surface oil off your face.
You can even use a small drop of the oil as moisturiser.
It hasn't transformed my skin but it is a nourishing way to cleanse and removes a lot of dry dead skin. It stops your face feeling dry and tight, and is very MSE compared to buying cleanser. I'm having terribly lump and spot problems too and it hasn't made them worse.

I found that the OCM made my skin much worse. It brought out so many of those hard lumpy spots. Eventually in desperation I went for allergy testing and found out I'm intolerant to dairy. After cutting this out I have lovely clear skin again, and soon notice if I cheat too badly! I would thoroughly recommend the testing, it cost me £50 which was well worth it, I was spending a fortune on various products to help my skin. You may also find it helps with your other health issues. Good luck!0

BB,
If you have not tried it, drinking water may help.
If you could drink 2/3 litres a day you should see a difference.
Winter is a terrible time for dry skin and in my case it is because I find it harder to drink that amount in the colder months, I can see the difference if I miss a couple of days. You could always have it hot with sliced lemon. It does not have the same effect if you drink copious amounts of tea or coffee, I have tried
I only exfoliate lightly once a week, I never use soap on by face.
Your improved health is a good start to 2011 I hope it continues.
