My mate has one as a company car, so insurance isnt an issue, but the company car tax he pays on it is horrendous. At your age (looking at your username), you're going to get dry bummed for insurance on one of these, no two ways about it. We're talking thousands rather than hundreds of pounds. Tryes are about £220 a corner and don't last that long really, dunno about servicing but it is a very high performance car, so again its not going to be cheap.

However, it goes like a stabbed rat up an aquaduct. I'm not kidding, it is SERIOUSLY fast, easily the fastest car I've ever driven, I should also point out that I'm used to riding a Honda Fireblade too, which is no slouch. My wife got out of it as white as a ghost and physically shaking the first time she drove it.

My advice, don't bother. Put your money into an asset that grows in value rather than one that costs you shed loads. It is fun alright but I know I'd get bored of shelling out so much money for it all the time.

    Look on here for info
    http://www.civinfo.com/

I was toying with the idea of one a couple of years ago but got the 2.2 deisel instead ,couldnt justify the running costs for a car
Top gear (Clarkson) slated it ages ago ,said it was worse than the earlier model

Oh thats assuming you are talking about the 06 onwards model ?

If you still have designs on a hot hatch look at the Focus ST ,loads about 2nd hand
    Have a nice day :)

Clarkson's opinion is just that.....his opinion and I wouldn't worry too much about what he says.
Tyres are only £220 a corner if you buy premium brand like Michelin. Many mid range tyres are half that price.

It is pretty quick as someone already mentioned but they're not anything like supercar fast....and don't expect to leave every other car behind. Many others are as fast. It's got around 220bhp and due to the vtec engine it's slightly lower on torque than other engines with similar output eg Honda has 220bhp and 192nm of torque. Audi A4 2.0T has 220bhp and 300Nm of torque. As a result, Audi will feel quicker lower down
Many modern diesels will be hanging on if you start trying to giving it some stick....eg mates 330d was hanging on to other mates Audi S4.
I had a blast with one in my 3.0 Z4.....neck and neck all the way to around 95...then it was fun over.

I'd say it's a Honda - it's bulletproof. It'll probably last for miles if maintained properly. But I'd be wary of buying a Type R privately. By it's nature it's a sporty, fast car and likely to have been driven as such. Without expert eyes to check the car you could end up with a lemon. Unless you get AA/RAC/friendly expert to help you out, a dealer may be best bet even it will cost a bit more.....could cost a lot more if you buy privately.

Best to join a civic forum prior to purchase and ask some questions....maybe even buy one from a forum member - they're normally pretty car savvy and will have looked after it properly....maybe even serviced more often than the book says.

They are also built in Swindon, NOT Japan, and it shows. Performance only really kicks in over 6000 rpm, do you really want to drive around like that in overcrowded Britain. Son had one, not me. Loved it, but lots of mechanical aggro. He had fun, if only in the lower gears, but the price was unacceptable.

What shape are you referring to. The 01 - 06 version known as the EP3 or the 2007 onwards known as the FN2?
I have the EP3 and can report that on my first journey I received a misery voucher costing me £60 and 3 points.
They are seriously quick and every man and cahv wants to race you. They have a power boost known as VTEC, but it is so far up the rev range before it kicks in, you are usually breaking the speed limit.
Like any high performance car, your first check should be for crash damage and an HPI to confirm not stolen.
Services are due every 12,500 miles and Honda dealers charge a fortune. The interim service was quoted to me at £199, which I asked what was done and it is effectively an MOT with an oil and filter change.
One word of warning...listen for tappy engines...when caned the engines can use oil...perfectly normal for these, but the new generation of youngsters who never check their oil often run them dry and the crankshaft gets wiped out and that alone will cost £675, plus VAT for the part alone.
Watch for cars pulling to the right....should have had a new sterring rack fitted although Honda never accepted it was a fault, so no recall. Look out for notchy second gear...another inherent flaw which is the 6th gear synchro which causes it.
£20 of juice will gert you around 100 miles, so bear that in mind.
Tyres...you should only really use the original Bridgestone Potenza RE040 as they have stiffer sidewalls to keep the handling taught and they cost around £110 a tyre.
Lots of room inside, annoying passenger seat though...if you tilt it, it returns to a default position. Not a lot of gadgets inside, but you don't need them as it is effectively a track car.
Overall, I would say get one.
