Shredder for home use (quiet?)

I want to buy a cheap shredder for home use and have seen several on the high street at £15 mark. However I remember someone telling me these can sound as though they are about to take off.
Can anyone advise me?
Positive and negative comments would be appreciated.

I recently got a cross-cut shredder from Tesco for £14.99, they might be back up to £20 now, & it's not too noisy - certainly quieter than a Fellowes strip shredder it replaced.
  • You won't get a proper 'quiet motor' one for fifteen pounds. The most important thing is to get a cross cut (aka confetti) shredder, these provide much better security and make the waste more compact.

I've only had one shredder so couldn't tell you how it compares to others, I won't say it's quiet but to be honest, I'm only shredding for a minute so it's not the end of the world, I certainly wouldn't pay more just for it to be quiet.

Avoid the Cross cut from woolies, mine broke down, yet the strip cut from woolies still works!
My Mind wanders, if found please return.
  • Got one of these from Woolies - very quiet, no motor and cheap!!

    Hi Weejenny,

A few months ago BT was giving away free shredders for re-joining them. I did so and then left again, the shredder is lovely and noise free. Give customer care a ring, you never know...:money:
