yes it's the same spot rate as the credit card. only difference is you have to pay it there and then!

Make sure you make CASH withdrawls from your debit card as long as you have money in your account and purchases on your visa !!

Remember there is a charge for a withdrawl on the credit card

Thanks for the reply,we'll go with the debit card.
  • The rate we got for Euros in Majorca was excellent 1.48 from a bank machine in the hotel reception. The best we could get before travelling was an M & S rate of 1.43.

You don't have to carry lots of cash this way, far safer and cheaper.

We also used the Nationwide card to pay for all our Hotels and car hire in Canada this summer which saved us about £100 with the better rates and no fee.

Yes- I've used it in Thailand. Apart from no charges you get the "wholesale" or "money market" rate of exchange, which is far better than the Tourist rate!

Used my Nationwide debit card for commission free cash withdrawls in Spain this summer and Nationwide credit card for purchases. Miles cheaper by far and you don't come home with pockets full of euros or travellers checks you don't want. Just withdraw what you need.

We bought some ciggies on our Nationwide credit card and when we got the bill yesterday(which we will pay in full as intended) we got an exchange rate of 1.49 euros to the £,which was great considering it was only 1.43 to the £ in resort.

That was a VERY good rate. Don't you mean 1.49 Euro to the Pound ?

You will get the exchange rate, not the tourist rate, it's the best way to get your money when abroad.

A tip, in some countries the machine asks GB pounds or the local currency, always say the local currency, it is confusing as you might think because you are spending GB pounds that is what you should choose, we made the mistake in Tenerife of selecting GB pounds and were charged commision by the banks for changing it.
