House sales down

UK home sales fell in November as the property market showed little sign of fresh life at the end of the year.
There were 77,000 residential properties sold for more than £40,000 in the UK in November, according to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
This was down from a revised figure of 80,000 the previous month and some 6,000 fewer sales than in the same month a year earlier.
A lack of demand from first-time buyers has pushed down sales and prices.

I am surprised it is only 6,000 lower than Dec. 2009, that was the last month of the stamp duty holiday.0

the stamp duty holiday was for ALL buyers there is one now, but its only for proper FTBs and its for a higher value and the END date isnt Jan 2011 its Jan 2012 or around then, so no rush to complete!
At the end of the day, these numbers arnt too different, and the Fact we have had a lot of snow in November would have stopped a lot of families moving as its not possible to get removal companies to get up your road etc, and its a nightmare... My dad was victim of this and would avoid it like the plague in the future.
Again we have a LOT of snow in December now, presently, so all those pre december completions could also be put on hold until the snow is gone due to the difficulties of moving.Plan

If the BBC employed competent journos instead of teenage scribblers they would have used seasonally adjusted data revealing an actual increase in house sales over October.
