The number of empty homes in Scotland has risen to its highest level since 2003, according to a survey by the Bank of Scotland.
Its latest vacant property report records 106,239 properties in September 2009 compared with 106,312 in 2003.
Hurray.
Cheap houses for all then.:j
The bank said in some areas with large numbers of empty homes property prices and earnings were low.
Ah....
So where there are lots of empty houses, property is already cheap and earnings are low.
Who'd have seen that one coming.....
Never mind, at least we can use them to house the homeless right?
A spokesman said: "However, the main issue facing the comhairle is that most of these homes are not available for use.
"A large number are houses that people do not want to rent out or sell as they are kept for family holidays/family use.
"In addition many of these houses are in a very poor state of repair and would require substantial investment to make them habitable."
Or maybe not.
So what is the definition of an empty house?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-12042696The Bank of Scotland's definition for a vacant property is a second home and those empty because it is between a change of occupiers, undergoing renovation, in disrepair or awaiting demolition
Which makes the report a bit pointless really.....;)

Why does the definition make it pointless?
What other definition could you possibly have?0 -

Within the context of the housing shortage debate (which is presumably the only point in measuring empty houses).....
How does it help by classifying holiday homes, those being refurbished, derelict houses, or those awaiting demolition as "empty"?
They're not available for use.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Agreed, it would interesting to know how many properties are sitting available for people to live in, rather than how many properties people are keeping with no intention of renting/selling them. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Is it hard being a complete !!!!!! or does being a complete !!!!!! come easy to you?
I often wondered what it would be like to be a complete !!!!!! but thought no more of it when I realised that being a complete !!!!!! obviously means you will be !!!!!!! in an old peoples home when you are shoved in a corner !!!!!!! to yourself watching the walls when even the nurses have had enough of you being a complete !!!!!!.
