Something rattling between 1400 and 1600rpm

I'm a little bit worried. Something is rattling between 1400 and 1600rpm on my car. Doesn't matter what gear i'm in, in fact revving in neutral causes the same noise/rattle. When in the car, it sounds like something is going around inside the engine.... I believe the noise is coming from under the bonnet, but could be "underneath" the car I suppose. Its definitely not the heater value... any ideas what it could be?

Possibly a heat shield under the cars became detached. Seen a few hanging down on cars recently due to the bad weather.0

I've got a similar rattle just now; it's my heat shield.
Hopefully thats all yours is.
Bothered me too till i found out what it was, sounds really unhealthy.0 -
Alternator bearings are a distinct possibility, doesn't mean it's going to fail immediatley though.553780080

might have been me.
one of mine became loose after getting stuck in the heavy snow last week.
i expected it to be the exhaust because the last time i looked at that the front hanger was a very rusty, almost non existant. but its still there doing ok....work permit granted!0 -
I've not become stuck in any snow, and its been doing this for a few weeks before the snow started.... could be heat shield, but can't be sure.
Is this something i could get Ford to investigate under a 3-year new car warranty?0 -
ahhhhh its a ford and under 3 years old

Any noise should be investigated to preserve the warranty, if it gets worse they can refuse to repair it if you tell them it started weeks ago and didn't give them a chance to fix it.0 -
Thats a good point... I must get the car booked in then. I had called my local Ford dealer about having them replace the heated windscreen due to a block of 10 - 15 failed elements, but they wanted to keep the car ALL DAY so have been slightly reluctant until weather improves.0

You can't change a windscreen in the cold, so they'll need to have the car in, warm it up, change the screen, then keep it a few hours until the adhesive sets properly before they can move it.0
