HELP! Flight cancelled! can I claim hotel money back?

Options
My easy jet flight to paris was cancelled due to the snow in glasgow. I have been given a refund for flights but have lost the hotel money for disneyland paris which I booked seperately. Travel inurance say they are not liable and easyjet only have to refund the flights.

Can i claim the hotel money back from my credit card which i used to book it with?

any advice would be appreciated?

No you cannot claim from your credit card as the hotel has not failed to provide service it was contracted to do. It's unfortunate that the travel insurance does not cover you in these circumstances. A decent policy would.

if you had have booked it as a full package, through someone like Disneyland Paris, where everything is booked under 1 contract, you will have been refunded in full without question. Unfortunately, and you are not alone here, booking things seperately might often work out cheaper however for you it has now cost you a lot of money.

All i could suggest is contacting DLRP and explaining the situation to them, and hope that they have a sympathetic view on the matter. Maybe ask if you could swap dates to a date in the future instead of asking foor a full refund, as this might seem more appealling to them, and they may go for this (after all, it's still gauranteeing DLRP the booking, thus effectively not having to refund you).

Or choose a decent insurance policy, and keep the savings from booking DIY. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

I think the Post Office policy would cover you, although if you have the basic policy only up to £500 in total and with a £100 excess. You need to look under the delay/abandonment section, not the cancellation section. Most policies will meet unrecoverable costs (e.g. non-refundable hotel bookings) if you decide to call off your holiday if delayed by at least 12 hours because of bad weather.

Very true indeed, and i'm sure that there are some suitable policies out there that do that.

However a family of 4 with a £75.00 per person excess equals £300.00 excess to pay for a start. Makes it a very expensive insurance policy................

    Who's your travel insurance with?

It certainly should cover you. Are you sure they are not just trying it on?

Cubegame, all insurances are different, and some may cover this and others may not.

After all, the fact that the hotel is there with a room booked, however you not being able to get there is not classed as an insurable reason to some insurer's.

  • Perhaps I just got lucky but I claimed for my Disneyland Paris hotel booking as well as return trains to London under section 75 against my Eurostar booking with my credit card. This was following the Eurostar cancellations in December 2009. I claimed that the other bookings were consequential losses and I received a full refund. It took three letters to the credit card company, each time it felt like my request was being dealt with by more senior people.

    Good luck.
