Returing back to work after ESA ?

I've been off since august 2009 and started getting ESA from march 2010 , I'm now going back to work on the 12th january after having a spinal fusion with metalwork and a bone graft. I have yet to see my employers to duscuss my hours but it will be reduced hours building up to full time. My last ESA payment will be on the 7th jan. My sick note is signed up to the 12th. What will happen money wise ?? I won't have a normal months wages when I am paid from my employers in feb. Also as I was claiming as a couple as my husband lost his job. , will he have to make a claim in his own right ? Is there any help in the transition stage ? Any advice would be welcomed !!

You should contact your benefit delivery centre and advise them that you are going back to work on 12th January. You will be paid up to the 11th January and receive a P45 to give to your new employer. You may also be entitled to a Job grant of £100 - this would be paid automatically.

Your husband will have to make a claim in his own right, presumably for JSA if he is fit for work. Depending on your income, he may only be entitled to contributory JSA. If his claim is made in January, it will be based on his contributions between April 2008/April 2010. If he claimed before the new year, it would be based on April 2007-April 2009.

As your coming off ESA, you probably would be entitled to a Return to work credit of £40 pw, if you work at least 16 hour. This credit is disregarded for other benefits and tax credits.
