Ryanair review

I just flew with Ryanair for the first time and thought I would offer an opinion. I flew from Stanstead to Krakow.

The check in online process worked fine. I noticed many travellers were having to lighten their luggage before checkin in, but if there is a limit, there is a limit. Getting onto the plane is a bit of a bun fight. Why people can't just take their time is beyond me. The seats are the most cramped and uncomforable I have ever experienced. Only just about enough room to get in and out and made entirely of plastic. The flight was on time though. The flight staff spend the whole flight trying to sell you over priced rubbish.

On the return flight, every single passenger had their hand baggage checked that it was the correct size. Even 1cm too big and they charged a big fine. I saw at least 10 passengers get caught out.

Over all, just about a fair service for a fair price, but not and enjoyable experience. Will pay more next time and avoid the back pain.

  • So, what other European airlines offer more room in a normal economy seat?
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Ryanair have the advantage of offering some cheap fares to places it would otherwise be expensive to get to. I did Stansted to Gdansk and they were miles cheaper than the competition (except Wizzair which was nearly as cheap but less convenient) however they go out of their way to lie, cheat and try and make you pay extras all over the shop. I suppose that if you look at their balance sheet it works but they must be one of the most hated companies around for their sharp and devious practices.

Air Berlin has more space and a far superior service. I don't like the Ryanair seats either and the interior is hideously garish, but in terms of legroom Ryanair is the same as most. The charter airlines are often more cramped.

Ryanair's seat pitch is 30 inches. BA is 31, easyjet and bmibaby is 29. In that space most airlines also have that silly seatback pocket taking up space, Ryanair do not. The seat width is 17 inches, which is the same as bmibaby and most BA flights. I am therefore guessing that you usually travel in biz, you don't normally fly at all, or you set out with preconceived ideas and were determined to be proven right?

I like the seats because I don't like anybody reclining onto me. I suppose that (and the colour scheme!) are down to personal choice. ;)

Just checked Air Berlin - 32" pitch, 17" width. Ryanair offer 30" pitch, 17" width.

Still wondering who the carriers are that offer significantly more space on European economy seats.

I used to complain about the airports which Ryanair uses, but now I don't as they are a lot less stressful and quicker to get through security than the big ones e.g. Paris CDG, Milan Malpensa.
  • Monach are 28" pitch 2 inches smaller, ryanair has pretty good legroom for me and I'm 6' 3". Having flown with a few loco in recent years, I find their all much the same for comfort.
