Apart from the usual travelodges and premer Inns you could try the new Tune hotel that has just opened in Westminster. My cousin is just back from a week stay where and she was raving about it. The tag line is 5 star beds at 1 star prices. You only pay for what you want/need. So if you want to use the telly you pay a few pounds for it. You can dictate how often the room is cleaned, if you want a windowless room (sounds nasty but my cousin's pal picked that and said it was great - not dark and dingy). They even have adjustable mood lighting for your room. My cousin payed £35 per night for a double bed with en-suite.

I would keep an the on the budget hotels as they usually go down or have sales at some point. The Saturday will be the one you really have to keep an eye on and book when it is at a reasonable price, as will be popular being near to christmas. Keep checking on www.travelodge.co.uk, www.premierinn.com and you could also try the holiday inn 2 nights for 1 link and book one night separate to get the best prices.

I don't think they do family rooms, so you would need to pay for 2 rooms to accomodate a family of 4.

Travelodge often do their £9 sales, the sale usually starts about 4 months (ish) before the dates are available (iyswim).

You might want to sit tight for a while yet.

Premier Inn and Travelodge also have bookings up to a year in advance, so you should find a lot more available to you if you leave it till the New Year.

In the case of Travelodge you may find only flexible (expensive) rates are available to start with and better prices may come along nearer the time whan they have sales etc - but if you know you need a room then you can always book one at the flexible rate now and cancel it with a full refund if you subsequently manage to get cheaper rooms at a later date.

Just make sure you check that the rate you book originally is a flexible ratethat allows you to get a full refund if you cancel the booking (saver rates allow you to cancel the booknig, but you won't get any refund if you do so).

You can do the same with Premier Inn and probably a lot of the other chains as well....
