i've just received a bill (including late fee payment) from my old credit card , which i cancelled 2 months ago when paying off all credit on it. Although it doesn't amount to too much i'm pretty annoyed about it. Should i just send them a cheque or not? I have a letter from them confirming the closing of account 2 months ago!! How can this be?! Any advice re. matter appreciated.

It'll be trailing interest, so perfectly valid.
Does this mean you didn't check the next month's statements, and that's why you missed the payment?
Whatever you do, don't make it worse by not paying again.0 -
it is standard practice for credit card accounts to remain open for at least 3 months after the 'closure' date. This is so that all interest and fees are paid, as well as allowing for any late payments to go through.Debts at LBM (May '08) £5760 - Lloyds CC £4260, Lloyds OD £1500;Debts as of May 28th 2011:Santander CC: £0.00Lloyds OD : £0.00DFW Nerd #1247 - Proudly dealt with my Debts

Also bear in mind any continuous payment authorities you signed - eg card insurances etc. These WON'T automatically be killed by your cancelling the card unless you cancel the underlying authority you gave with the merchant concerned. Else they could bring the account back to life. Do keep checking any statements you receive and update the CC with any changes of address.0
