Credit Card Companies Reporting Late Payments

Greetings all,

I have a couple of questions regarding late payments and credit cards. In the past year, I have had two late payments on my Lloyds TSB credit card which resulted in £12 penalties. Fair enough given I didn't leave enough time for the payments to reach the bank and clear my account.

However, I've just looked at my credit report on credit expert and callcredit and can't see any note of the late payments. Do banks have discretion about when to pass on a late payment to credit reference agencies?

If so, would they be recorded anywhere else that I'm not seeing but which could be relevant for mortgage applications in the future etc? Or, if they're not on my credit reports then they won't show up?

One other question, one of my credit cards which was actually an employee discount card, there was a dispute over whether my payment was late or not. They agreed to remove the charge for late payment and my credit reports don't say anywhere about late payment. However, credit expert does have a green U meaning unclassified or recently opened account delay. I'm guessing this is in relation to the late payment that was taken off, however, given that it's green and the reports don't show any late payments, will this negatively impact my credit score?

Many thanks,

Craig

  • How late were the payments? CC providers will often wait 30 days before sending the information to the CRAs and if you've made up the payment before then it won't be recorded, but obviously you'll still be charged and it shows on their internal credit rating.
The second issue shouldn't affect your credit score if it's being updated to remove the marker, and to be honest one late payment makes little to no difference anyway.
