Why does it take so long to show payments off of balance?

in Credit cards
As I don't fancy asking someone in India this question (assuming I'd get an answer that I could understand), can anyone tell me why it takes Barclaycard so long to show a payment off of a balance.
Yesterday I paid a sum to my Platinum Barclaycard account via one of my online bank accounts and as is the case with many banks it was sent immediately to the recipient account but on checking my Barclaycard account today, no sign of the payment.
I would have thought that as with bank to bank transfers, payments such as the one I made yesterday would have been instant and shown as such when I checked my Barclaycard account.
Incidentally, it took Barclaycard 5 working days from the day it showed on my account to effect a balance transfer to my Virgin CC account and this despite the fact that their own conditions state "no more than 3 working days".
I did query this with the Indian call centre but all I got was a load of waffle and a failure to understand what I was complaining about!
I must add that when I spoke to the Virgin CC call centre to enquire about the small amount of credit I'd been left with on my account, I found their service to be excellent and more helpfully, based in the UK.
It may seem as if I'm anti Indian call centres and if I were I'd be blaming BT for that however, many call centres based in India do provide a good service but I do I wish the bad ones were improved or failing that shut down and bought back to these shores.

Your payment will show within 2 to 3 days but considering that yesterday was Friday most likely that it will show on Tuesday at the earliest....while some credit card company accept faster payment and it will be taken into account from the moment the money is sent, it always take the credit card company a couple of days to show payment...it is a normal procedure0

The question you should be asking them is when did you start accruing interest (even at 0%) with Barclaycard? If they tell you the day it was posted, then you need to find out whether Virgin delayed the posting or whether Barclaycard delayed the sending.
Probably best to ask them in writing though...if you feel it's worth it for the monies 'lost'.0
