My lad not entitled to JSA

My eldest (21 year old) is currently training to be an Architect Technician ,started his last year day release at College but has been made redundant ,his company knew this was coming as in sept they said they couldnt afford the college fees so i paid for them so he could carry on
Anyway he has been to see about JSA and they have told him he is entitled to diddly squat due to him being on a higher education course !!
They even suggested that he packed the course in so he could claim
He is currently living at home with us so apart from the usual day to day living expense Specsavers (contact lense) and monthly Dental care plan he doesnt have any outgoings as such
Any suggestions on what should be his next step and is there anything else he could get help with
He is actively seeking other employment
I am not happy about him having to claim anything to be honest and whilst he is living under my roof i will keep him in food and beer money but there must be something he can do even if its getting help with the college fees

If he was full time he wouldn't be able to claim but there's no reason why a part time student shouldn't be able to. He needs to take this further.0

I think that it maybe something to do with being availible to seek work. has he been applying for other jobs not related to the field he wants to go into?0

How many hours a week does he do?0

He would also have to be willing to give college up if a suitable job was found."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Thanks for replies all
Scooby088..yes he has ,nothing yet though
NickyBat ..He is at college for 1 day a week ( 8 hours ish)
Sammyjammy ..not willing to ,and i wouldnt want him to because he would be throwing away 3 years at college as its a 4 year course and he is in his last year
All they told him was its because its classed as an higher education course he is on !!
So much for trying to improve his career
Have a nice day

think it would do him good to go back and speak to his adviser and let them know he is only doing 8 hours a week, what does he do the other 4 days?0

4 days? Isn't 7 days minus 1 day 6 days available for work. You need to make yourself available for work for at least 40 hours per week and you can say I'm not available on 1 day per week. Usually a weekend but you can specify a weekday.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I'm assuming he is at college on a weekday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -
hmm, a few years ago my now hubby got made redundant and was at university part time and still able to sign on, he had to say that he would give it up for a suitable job, however the Job centre advisors were very understanding and never pressured him, as he was available for FT work just at funny times, this went on for about 12 months until he found a suitable job, he also got housing and CT benefit at the time.Aug 24 - Mortgage Balance £242,040.19
Credit Card - £8,141.63 + £4,209.83
Goals: Mortgage Free by 2035, Give up full time work once Mortgage Free, Ensure I have a pension income of £20k per year from 20350 -
He must go back and ask again. Persevere. It makes no sense. 7 years ago when I started a course (weekday mornings, total 15 hours a week) I signed on and stated all the hours I would be available for work, which were very awkward, but never got hassled about it. I got a Saturday job and did shifts in the evenings, but got my benefits for the few weeks I wasn't earning. He must persue this. He's SO available for work, it shouldn't be a problem. NO WAY should he pack in his final year, how frustrating.0
