I have 2 siberian huskies, one male, called grey, who is 26 months and neutered, and one female called Kira, she's 22 months and still entire.
I have taken out pet insurance for the both of them as I simply cant afford to pay out for a large vet bill, obviously insurance doesnt cover routine care like worming, vaccinations, spaying/neutering.
here's my tips for getting your premiums down:

BTW im with directline, costs me £24.43 for both of the dogs on advanced cover (lifetime)

here's my tips for getting your premiums down:
- have a £0 purchase price, even if your dog/cat cost £600, this can greatly reduce the monthly payout and doesnt affect your cover, except you wont get a payout on the pets death. If your not bothered about getting money when your dog/cat passes away then this wont affect you.
- have your dog/cat neutered/spayed and chipped.
- opt out of all the extras, like kennelling fees in an emergency, holiday cancellation cover etc, these are rarely going to be needed and can knock a few quid off your premium.
- choose a well known and reputable company which are happy to go straight through your vets, such as Direct Line or Pet Plan, they may be slightly more expensive than less reputable companies but vets are more likely to go directly to them rather than ask you to pay upfront and claim the money back. This can save you from running up credit card bills or taking out loans to pay for treatments.
- Dont claim for treatment which you can pay for out of your own pocket as when you renew your claim the premiums may have skyrocketed.
