What to get a 9 year old boy for Christmas??

Hi, wondering if anyone could help please...I do befriending voluntary work and have recently been matched with a 9 year old boy. I have only met him a few times and he doesn't really say much so I don't know what kind of thing he's into. The organisation I volunteer through will reimbursh my up to £20 for a gift for him but I have no idea what to get for him!!

some info about him...he is a young carer for his mother and father, he doesn't play outside as there is no garden and they live on a busy main street, he has only recently moved to the area so doesn't have many friends to play with. I take him on an outing once a week so gift can't be to take him somewhere!!

Thanks in adance for an ideas I have never bought a gift for a boy this age so really need some help!!

How about something like a gift card for whsmiths...he could use it to buy a book or game orsomething along those lines...
If you are uncomfortable about a voucher then why not opt for something safe in reading terms like the guinness book of records or ripleys believe it or not type books...
Whsmith also do the science museum gifts which are always a good bet for a boy that age.

I have a 9 year old son and for Christmas he is getting a microscope, a human body set, bakugan, pokemon cards, paper jamz, books. Thinking about it, paper jamz would be the best bet I reckon. I can imagine that most kids, whatever they are normally into, would love playing with the guitars.
They are normally £25 but they have been on offer so I am sure they would be again somewhere.

    Lego.

All my son's friends are into lego, and if you can get him a little kit which has a mini figure or 2 in it, he can play with them once the building is made.

    Something like this http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3882919/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CToys+and+games%7C14417629/Trail/searchtext%3ELEGO+PRODUCTS.htm ??
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)

How about a mixture. My 10 year old niece (not girly in any shape or form, but very cool) loves Horrible Science.

Perhaps you could get him something from that range with a video game (always appreciated by that age group).

My son is 9 (and coincidentally also a young carer!) and all he and his friends are going on about is the new match attacks football cards! The collectors book is £4.99 then each pack of cards is 50p, i've bought my son these as one of his presents :D Also he is very into the more grown up board games now like othello, scrabble etc

  • WH Smith have a toys & games sale on at the moment. Lots of Science Museum toys in there under £20:

  • I have an 8yr old and 10 yr old nephews, they like anything football related, match attaks, nintendo ds games, nerf guns, paper jamz, board games such as pictureka flipper.

Has he said why he wants money from his parents, maybe he is saving up for something and you could buy him something to go with whatever it is?
