Credit searches - how long before they fall off?

Hi all
Is it 6 months or 12 before searches fall off? I'm sure it was 12 but I have recently applied for a number of products (sub prime due to a little bit of adverse history from 2008) and one (Halifax) has searched me 6 times for the same application . I have contacted them and they denied it so that's a letter of complaint.
However they did say that searches only stay on for a month, now I know that's nonsense but would like a definitive answer as to whether its 6 months or 12
thanks
