Which cards offer Extended Guarantees on bought items?

I have no debt to transfer and only have an Amex Nectar card for the sake of points which I hardly use. So I only want a card for emergencies and when we needed a card in the summer for an emergeny (pet injury) our vet doesn't take Amex.

So looking to switch to a VISA or MASTERCARD, but I know SOME card issuers offer extended Guarantees over the base 12 months on most (electrical) items. Is there a guide or a table that shows what cards offer what guarantees? As I recall I think Barclaycard is 12 months on top of the normal 12?

    Not any more, AFAIAA.

    Nationwide offer a extended warranty:

It is also a good card to have if you ever shop abroad as it does not charge a fee.

Unless NatWest have changed their package (which does not appear to be the case from a quick look at their website), you only get extended warranties if you link your NatWest credit card to an Advantage Gold account, which in my opinion is absolutely NOT worth the £12 per month fee.

I used to have a NatWest credit card + Adv Gold account. I got the extended warranty on a couple of purchases and had no trouble getting a repair man to visit under the extended warranty. I now have a Nationwide credit card. I have obtained the extended warranty on a couple of purchases but have not yet needed to claim, so I can't really comment on the quality of cover.

It looks like both Natwest and Citibank have removed their offer of Extended Warranty as a benefit. It is no longer offered on their websites.

Both used to have it for many years on their Gold and Platinum credit cards.

Anyone can confirm this? I wonder what happens to existing card holders like myself. Do we just lose the benefit? Time to move to HSBC Premier, I guess... Or Nationwide.
  • Anyone know which is best for this out of Nationwide and hsbc? - thanks

Or Amex - I just noticed they offer 12 months extended warranty - no one seems to mention that they do it.

Should I avoid them? DO most online retailers accept amex?

I believe this is only for their chargecards for which there is an annual fee.
