If I cancel my card, what happens to warranty?

Hi

I regularly change my credit cards according to the best rates offered etc. And I cancel the cards once paid off. But what happens if I have purchased something with the card that is still under warranty? Obviously I would still have my receipt, but no card to prove that the receipt etc belonged to me. Also, should a refund be forthcoming, can the retailer simply refund onto a different card? I wouldn't have thought so.

Any info gratefully received. Cheers.

Warranty shouldn't make a difference, as this will usually focus on replacement/repair.

If a refund is called for the retailer would normally refund to the closed account, and then the CC company should repay the money to you (in some instances you may need to chase as it is sitting in a suspense account)

Dazza is right, the money will sit in your old account until you request it, at which point it should be sent out to you.

However, you'll probably need to wait until theyve done their money laundering checks, before the cash is sent out, and this could take a few weeks. Thank the idiots of 9/11 for this.
  • Thanks Guys.

Didn't realise money could be credited to a closed account. I am wondering tho', how this would be done if my card is in pieces (if I follow the advice given when I close an account), as normally the card is swiped etc when refund is given.

However, as pointed out, I guess a refund is usually unlikely & as long as I have my receipt I should be OK. Mind put to rest. Thanks again. Now to close the account...
